ADDITIONAL DATES SCHEDULED FOR OVERNIGHT FULL CLOSURES ON SECTIONS OF I-95 SOUTH
Signed detours in place as crews close sections of I-95 south between exits 17-37 for paving operations

PRINCE GEORGE COUNTY / SUSSEX COUNTY – Weather permitting, contractor crews with the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) are scheduled to continue a series of overnight southbound closures on sections of I-95 over the next few weeks for interstate paving work in Prince George and Sussex counties. Motorists should follow the signed detours using Route 301 (South Crater Road/Blue Star Highway).

Full southbound closures are scheduled to occur from 6 p.m. to 7 a.m. on each of the following sections of I-95. The work on each section is expected to take multiple nights; however, only one section is planned to close at a time.

On I-95 south, overnight closures:

  • between Route 301/South Crater Road/Carson (exit 37) and Route 40/Stony Creek/Waverly (exit 31) scheduled for Oct. 24
  • between Route 40/Stony Creek/Waverly (exit 31) and Route 645/Owen Road (exit 24), scheduled for Oct. 25-29
  • between Route 645/Owen Road (exit 24) and Route 301/Blue Star Highway (exit 17), scheduled for Oct. 29 to Nov. 1

Additionally, all corresponding entrance and exit ramps to I-95 south will be closed within the specific section of I-95 closed that night.

This work is weather, temperature and schedule-dependent; therefore, this schedule is subject to change.

Motorists are encouraged to anticipate delays on these evenings, take alternate routes, and check 511Virginia.org before starting their trip to find real-time updates on work zones and traffic conditions.

Motorists should plan their drive with VDOT’s free traffic information tools:
