DESIGN PUBLIC HEARING TO BE HELD ON PROPOSED PLANS FOR WIDENING NEXT “GAP” SEGMENT OF INTERSTATE 64
Public invited to learn more about plans to extend congestion relief on the next section of I-64 in James City County

WILLIAMSBURG — The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will hold a design public hearing on Thursday, Aug. 24, to present the proposed plans for widening 9 miles of Interstate 64 (I-64) in James City County. This project segment, referred to as Segment C, is the second of three I-64 Gap Widening Projects planned to expand the I-64 corridor from four to six lanes, alleviating congestion and bridging the remaining “gap” of unwidened interstate between Hampton Roads and Richmond.

Plans for the Segment C project include the addition of one travel lane on I-64 in each direction, from the New Kent-James City County line to approximately 1.2 miles west of Route 199/Lightfoot (exit 234). Additional improvements include the widening and rehabilitation of the two bridges over Six Mount Zion Road, as well as paving the Lightfoot Park & Ride lot in York County.
