JAMESTOWN-SCOTLAND FERRY SERVICE RESUMES SERVICE AT REDUCED CAPACITY

SURRY – As of Saturday, Sept. 23 at 8:00 a.m., operations have resumed at the Jamestown-Scotland Ferry after service was previously suspended at 3:30 a.m. due to high tides associated with the storm.

Service is currently reduced with one ferry departing Surry on the hour and departing Jamestown on the half-hour.

High water caused by higher-than-normal tide levels prevents the loading ramps on the docks from safely being raised and lowered onto the ferry boats. If service is reduced or suspended, it will be restored as soon as waters recede, allowing ramps to be safely secured for loading vehicles.

Motorists should plan for potential delays and are encouraged to call the ferry hotline at 1-800-VA-FERRY (1-800-823-3779) or visit 511virginia.org for status updates to determine if an alternate route is needed. Motorists can also view the traffic queues approximately 0.5 mile from the boarding locations in real-time on the VDOT 511 cameras.

Alternate route to Jamestown from the Surry boarding location:

·       Take Route 10 to Route 258 to the James River Bridge (Route 17);

·       Follow signs for I-64 west. Exit onto Route 199 west (exit 242A) toward Williamsburg; and

·       Follow to Route 31 (Jamestown Road).

Alternate route to Surry from the Jamestown boarding location:

·       Take Route 31 to Route 199. Make a right onto Route 199;

·       Merge onto I-64 east. Follow to the James River Bridge exit;

·       After traveling over the James River Bridge make a right onto Route 258, a right onto Route 10; and,

·       Follow Route 10 to the town of Surry traffic signal.

For additional travel alerts, motorists are encouraged to follow @VaDOTHR on Twitter, visit 511virginia.org, call 511, or download the free Virginia 511 mobile app.
