PORTION OF ROUTE 634 (OLD FORTY ROAD) OVER ASSAMOOSICK SWAMP TO CLOSE FOR BRIDGE REPAIRS
Signed detours will be in place starting as early as Nov. 13
SUSSEX COUNTY – Starting as early as Nov. 13, a portion of Route 634 (Old Forty Road) in Sussex County is scheduled to close as crews from the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) perform repairs to the substructure of the bridge over Assamoosick Swamp.
Route 634 (Old Forty Road) will be closed to through traffic between Route 604 (Summerfield Road) and Route 40 (Sussex Drive), with signed detours in place.
Motorists traveling southbound on Route 634 (Old Forty Road) from Route 604 (Summerfield Road):
- Turn right onto Route 35 (Jerusalem Plank Road)
- Turn right onto Route 40 (Sussex Drive)
- Turn right onto Route 643 (Old Forty Road)
Motorists traveling southbound on Route 40 (Sussex Drive):
- Continue south on Route 40 (Sussex Drive)
- Turn left onto Route 35 (Jerusalem Plank Road)
- Turn left onto Route 643 (Old Forty Road)
Access to all existing private property along Route 634 will be maintained at all times.
The work is anticipated to be complete as early as late 2023. This work is weather-dependent, and the schedule is subject to change.
