ROUTE 683 BRIDGE REPLACEMENT OVER STALLINGS CREEK REOPENS AHEAD OF SCHEDULE IN ISLE OF WIGHT COUNTY
Road 683 open to traffic, detour lifted
ISLE OF WIGHT COUNTY – As of today, a portion of Route 683 (Dews Plantation Road) over Stallings Creek has reopened to traffic following the early completion of a bridge replacement project in Isle of Wight County.
The work on Route 683, near Route 623 (Green Level Road) included replacing the one-lane, multi-span, steel-beam, wood-deck bridge with a one-lane (20' wide), two-span, prestressed concrete slab bridge and installing riprap slope protection on the western and eastern abutments.
The Route 683 Bridge Replacement Project has been completed ahead of schedule and under budget. Originally anticipated to be completed in November 2023, the work completed by contractor crews with the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) wrapped up several months ahead of schedule.
VDOT awarded the $1.04 million bridge replacement contract to Bryant Structures, Inc. in early 2023, with construction work beginning in March 2023.
