Give Input on Fairfax County Parkway Widening
Public information meeting is Jan. 7 at Robinson Secondary School
FAIRFAX – The Virginia Department of Transportation will hold a public information meeting Monday, Jan. 7 (if cancelled due to inclement weather, the meeting will be Monday, Jan. 14) on plans to widen and make other improvements to about five miles of the Fairfax County Parkway (Route 286) between Route 29 (Lee Highway) and Route 123 (Ox Road).
The proposed preliminary design includes:
- Widening Fairfax County Parkway from four to six lanes
- Building a new interchange at Popes Head Road and the future Shirley Gate Road extension
- Improving the Route 123 interchange, as well as the Fairfax County Parkway/Burke Centre Parkway intersection
- Improving the existing Fairfax County Parkway Trail and creating a new shared-use path to make the trail continuous within the project limits
Stop by between 6:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. at Robinson Secondary School, 5035 Sideburn Road, Fairfax, VA 22032 to learn more about the project and review proposed plans. VDOT staff will be available to answer questions. A presentation will begin at 7 p.m.
The project is being financed with federal, state and local funds, including Smart Scale and Northern Virginia Transportation Authority funding.
