New Temporary Traffic Pattern Change on I-66 West Near Gallows Road Starting On or About August 2
Merge location being shifted to create room for bridge pier construction

FAIRFAX – Drivers exiting I-495 South (Outer Loop) to I-66 West or traveling westbound on I-66 near the Dunn Loring Metro Station should expect traffic pattern changes as travel lanes and the on-ramp merge point are shifted beginning on or about August 2.

The ramp from I-495 South to I-66 West will merge from two lanes to one just east of the Gallows Road overpass, requiring drivers to merge approximately one half-mile prior to the current merge location. These temporary changes will begin around August 2 and be in place for about eight weeks to create room on the left side of the roadway to construct new Gallows Road bridge piers next to the Dunn Loring Metro Station.

Drivers traveling on I-66 West should use caution and be alert for merging traffic and for construction vehicles entering the highway near the Gallows Road overpass. Drivers on I-495 South should be alert for possible traffic backups extending from the ramp to I-66 West.

Drivers should expect delays and are advised to use alternate routes.

Gallows Road is being re-aligned slightly to the east and a new Gallows Road bridge is being built as part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project.
