Fourth Lane Scheduled to Open This Week on I-395 South between Duke Street in Alexandria and Edsall Road in Springfield near I-495/Capital Beltway
ALEXANDRIA - A new, fourth travel lane is scheduled to open on or about this Friday, June 12 on southbound I-395 between Duke Street and Edsall Road, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT). This new travel lane will provide additional capacity in a busy stretch of I-395, and is being completed as part of the overall I-395 Express Lanes project. In preparation for this opening, motorists are asked to slow down, remain alert and watch for construction crews in the area.
Work crews are following the most recent guidance from the federal and state government and are committed to the health and safety of all those who work and interact with the construction operation.
The work to add a fourth lane to I-395 South is part of the 395 Express Lanes project. The eight-mile 395 Express Lanes opened on Nov. 17, 2019 and connect the 95 Express Lanes to Washington, D.C. Learn how the lanes work and plan your trip at www.ExpressLanes.com.
The 395 Express Lanes are a public-private partnership between the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) and Transurban. See more details on the project and related lane closures.
