New Ramp from I-66 West to Braddock Road/Walney Road Overpass Opening to Traffic on or about Wednesday, Dec. 16
Ramp provides direct access from I-66 West to Braddock Road and Walney Road
UPDATE (12/15): Due to forecasted winter weather, this opening is now planned for Friday, Dec. 18.
FAIRFAX – The new, permanent ramp from I-66 West to the new Braddock Road/Walney Road overpass over Route 28 will open on or about Wednesday, December 16. Drivers on westbound I-66 traveling to Braddock Road and Walney Road will take the exit for Route 28 North, then stay to the left to access the new ramp to Braddock Road and Walney Road.
Opening of the new, permanent ramp will provide direct access from I-66 West to Braddock Road and Walney Road, and ends the long-term detour directing drivers from I-66 West to Westfields Boulevard via Route 28 North.
Starting on or about the early morning hours of Wednesday, December 16, drivers should expect the following traffic pattern change, weather depending:
I-66 West to Braddock Road/Walney Road
- Drivers traveling from I-66 West to Braddock Road or Walney Road will take the current exit from I-66 West to Route 28 North, stay to the left to use the new permanent ramp, and merge from the left onto the ramp from Route 28 North to Braddock Road/Walney Road. At the top of the new ramp, drivers will be able to turn left onto Braddock Road to travel west, or right onto Walney Road to head east.
- Drivers traveling on the ramp from Route 28 North to the Braddock Road/Walney Road overpass should remain alert for traffic merging onto the ramp from the left.
- Access from I-66 West to Route 28 North will remain unchanged.
Drivers should always use caution and pay attention to lane markings and roadway signs in construction zones.
All work is weather dependent and will be rescheduled if inclement conditions occur.
The new Route 28 and I-66 Interchange will improve traffic flow on I-66 and Route 28, and provide access to and from the future I-66 Express Lanes.
