Overnight Closures and Traffic Stoppages on I-495 South at I-66 Next Week for Overhead Bridge Beam Installation
FAIRFAX – Overnight lane closures and periodic traffic stoppages on I-495 South approaching I-66 are scheduled Monday night, December 7, through Thursday night, December 10, for bridge beam installation for the widening of the westbound I-66 bridge over I-495. This work is part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project.
Drivers should expect delays if traveling in this area these nights and should consider using alternate routes.

Monday, December 7, through Thursday, December 10
I-495 South from Route 7 (Leesburg Pike) to I-66
- I-495 South will be reduced to one travel lane in the vicinity of I-66 Monday night, December 7, through Thursday night, December 10, from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly
- Drivers should expect periodic stoppages of up to 20 minutes between midnight and 4 a.m. each night for crews to set bridge beams into place.
- All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m.
Thursday, December 10
495 Express Lanes South at I-66
- The left lane on the 495 South Express Lanes South approaching I-66 will be closed Thursday night, December 10, from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
- Drivers should expect periodic brief stoppages between midnight and 4 a.m. for crews to set bridge beams into place.
- All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m.
Message boards on I-495 South are providing advance notice of lane closures and traffic stoppages.
All work is weather dependent and will be rescheduled if inclement conditions occur.
The I-66/I-495 Interchange is being reconstructed as part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project.
