REMINDER: Overnight Traffic Stoppages of up to 30 Minutes on I-66 East Near Vienna Metrorail Station START TONIGHT and Continue All Week for Vaden Drive Bridge Beam Lifts
UPDATE (6/11): Thursday night work rescheduled to Friday night, June 12; Saturday night work remains

UPDATE (6/11): The beam lift and stoppage originally planned for Thursday night, June 11, has been rescheduled for Friday night, June 12, due to Cedar Lane bridge beam removal over I-66 East taking place Thursday night. The Vaden Drive beam lift and I-66 East stoppage planned for Saturday, June 13, remains scheduled as detailed below. 

FAIRFAX – I-66 East will be reduced to a single travel lane with multiple 30-minute traffic stoppages between Route 123 (Chain Bridge Road) and Nutley Street during overnight hours Monday, June 8, through Saturday, June 13, for crews to lift beams in place for the new Vaden Drive bridge over I-66. Drivers should expect delays and total traffic stoppages of up to 30 minutes in this area, and should consider using alternative routes. Stoppages are currently planned for Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday nights.

Details include:

Monday, June 8, through Thursday, June 11
I-66 East between Route 123 and Nutley Street 

  • I-66 East will be reduced to one travel lane from 9 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. nightly
  • On the nights of Tuesday, June 9, and Thursday, June 11, drivers should expect periodic 30-minute stoppages for crews to lift bridge beams into place
  • On the nights of Monday, June 8, and Tuesday, June 9, lane closures are planned to extend past Nutley Street to include additional work areas for removal of an overhead sign gantry (Monday night) and utility relocation (Tuesday night) located east of Nutley Street
  • All lanes will reopen by 4:30 a.m.

Friday, June 12
I-66 East between Route 123 and Nutley Street

  • I-66 East will be reduced to one travel lane from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.
  • All lanes will reopen by 6 a.m.

Saturday, June 13
I-66 East between Route 123 and Nutley Street

  • I-66 East will be reduced to one travel lane from 9 p.m. to 9 a.m.
  • Drivers should expect periodic 30-minute stoppages for crews to lift bridge beams into place
  • All lanes will reopen by 9 a.m. 

Drivers should also expect multiple traffic stoppages tonight (Tuesday) on I-66 East and West near Nutley Street between 11 p.m. and 4 a.m. for utility relocation. See additional details.

All work is weather dependent and will be rescheduled if inclement conditions occur.
