Route 7 Improvements along Colvin Run, Difficult Run and Carpers Farm Way in Vienna
Work activities continue through 2020

VIENNA - As part of the Route 7 Corridor Improvements, construction activities in the Colvin Run and Difficult Run area and along Carpers Farm Way will continue through the remainder of 2020. Crews will continue utility work in these areas through the summer and fall months. Additional work activities will start in July, including selective tree-cutting in preparation for the temporary relocation of existing Colvin Run and other structural elements.

Starting the week of July 6, crews will begin temporary road widening, utility relocation, and construction of a new box culvert under Carpers Farm Way. Two-way traffic will be maintained on Carpers Farm Way during the work, and traffic will be flagged as needed through the work area.

Construction of the permanent Colvin Run relocation will begin in August, with the permanent relocation of Colvin Run scheduled for the fall months. Crews will also start construction of the south half of the pedestrian tunnel under Route 7 at Colvin Run Mill Park in the fall.

Drivers will experience single-lane closures on eastbound and westbound Route 7 while the work is ongoing, and all residences and public facilities will remain accessible.

The work is being done under permits from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the Virginia Marine Resources Commission, and the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality.

Please note crews are only working within the VDOT right of way and where rights have been acquired from property owners (read more).

As a reminder, the Route 7 speed limit has been reduced to 45 miles per hour in active work zones between Reston Avenue and Jarrett Valley Drive, and Virginia law prohibits the use of handheld cell phones while driving through an active work zone.

Please use caution and be alert to work zone signs, potential flagger or police direction, and watch for traffic shifts. Slow-moving vehicles and equipment may be entering or exiting the road.

Thanks for Giving Our Crews S P A C E

As work continues along Route 7, our crews are practicing social distancing. If you have questions or concerns about the construction, please give them the space they need to work, and call or email us instead of approaching the work site.
