Westbound Duke Street to Close at I-395 in Alexandria Weekend of April 17-19
Closure needed for bridge repairs as part of 395 Express Lanes project
ALEXANDRIA - Motorists and area residents are advised that the ramp from westbound Duke Street (Route 236) to southbound I-395 will be closed from 10 p.m. Friday, April 17 until 6 p.m. Sunday, April 19. Westbound Duke Street traffic will be detoured via northbound I-395, turning around at Seminary Road to southbound I-395 (see map above). This closure is needed for continued ramp improvement work as part of the overall 395 Express Lanes project. All work is weather dependent and may be rescheduled or extended if inclement conditions occur.
Throughout this scheduled work, drivers should expect delays in this area and are asked to slow down, remain alert and watch for construction crews working near Duke Street. The extended work hours are possible due to recent lighter traffic volumes, allowing crews to expedite completion of this work while minimizing the duration of impacts to area residents and drivers.
Work crews are following the most recent guidance from the federal and state government and are committed to the health and safety of all those who work and interact with the construction operation.
This bridge improvement work is being delivered as part of the 395 Express Lanes project. The eight-mile 395 Express Lanes opened on Nov. 17 and connect the 95 Express Lanes to Washington, D.C. Learn how the lanes work and plan your trip at www.ExpressLanes.com.
The 395 Express Lanes are a public-private partnership between the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) and Transurban. See more details on the project and related lane closures.
