Georgetown Pike Closed in Great Falls June 18-21
Detour in place during bridge work over Difficult Run
GREAT FALLS – Georgetown Pike (Route 193) over Difficult Run will be closed to through traffic between Old Dominion Drive and Towlston Road, weather permitting, from 8 p.m. Friday, June 18 to 4 a.m. Monday, June 21, for bridge work, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation.
Crews will be replacing concrete approach slabs as well as patching the concrete deck and repairing bridge joints. The bridge will reopen with temporary steel plates before new asphalt and lane striping occurs approximately two weeks later.
Please note that this work will include overnight noise. We apologize in advance for any inconvenience and thank residents for their patience. From 9 p.m., Friday, June 18 until 4 a.m., Saturday, June 19, crews will be performing concrete demolition with concrete hammers and hoe rams. From 4 a.m., Saturday, June 19 until 2 a.m., Sunday, June 20, construction activities with heavy equipment will include vehicle back up alarms, engine sounds, etc.
The full closure and overnight work is less disruptive to residents by allowing crews to complete work over one weekend, compared to several weeks if limited to normal lane closure hours.
Those needing to reach properties along Georgetown Pike will have access; however traffic will not be able to cross the bridge in either direction. Access to the Difficult Run Stream Valley parking lot will be maintained via eastbound Georgetown Pike at Old Dominion Drive.
Through traffic will be detoured via Old Dominion Drive and Towlston Road.
