FAIRFAX – The Virginia Department of Transportation is asking travelers in the vicinity of Annandale and Alexandria to give feedback on a study of potential improvements for about four miles of Route 236 (Little River Turnpike) between I-495 (Capital Beltway) and I-395.

The study is assessing existing traffic and safety conditions along Route 236 (Little River Turnpike) and congestion that occurs during morning and evening peak periods. Route 236 (Little River Turnpike) averages up to 55,000 vehicles a day within the study limits.

VDOT invites residents and travelers to learn more and share feedback from home. View the presentation online to learn more about existing traffic and safety conditions along Route 236 (Little River Turnpike), then give input and comments on corridor priorities by taking the online survey through July 28.

The study team will use this feedback to help develop potential operational, safety and accessibility alternatives that will be evaluated and presented during another opportunity for public comment later this fall.

Please note that this study does not set construction dates for any improvements, but develops proposed improvements that localities can pursue for funding.

This study is being completed through VDOT’s Strategically Targeted Affordable Roadway Solutions (STARS) program that aims to identify cost-effective measures to improve safety and reduce congestion. The study is expected to be complete and posted online this winter.
