FAIRFAX – I-66 East and West will close for multiple nights from March 5-8 to allow for partial demolition of the Route 28 South Bridge over I-66. I-66 West will close at Route 28 Friday night, March 5, and Sunday night, March 7. I-66 East will close at Route 29 (Lee Highway) during the overnight hours Saturday, March 6, through Monday, March 8. Multiple I-66 ramps to/from Route 28 and Route 29 will also be closed during these nights. The Route 28 Interchange is being rebuilt as part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project.

Drivers traveling on I-66 during this time should expect delays and consider using alternate routes.

During the nightly closures, demolition crews will remove portions of the Route 28 South Bridge that are over I-66 travel lanes. Up-to-date information and lane closures related to this bridge demolition work can be found at the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project’s Route 28 webpage.
