Overnight Ramp Closures at Multiple I-66 Interchanges Next Week, September 12-18, for the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project
UPDATE (9/14/2021): The ramp from Route 50 West to I-66 West will also be closed on Wednesday night, September 15, from midnight to 4 a.m.
The following closure has been added to this week's schedule:
Wednesday night, September 15
Ramp from I-66 East to Route 50 East
The ramp will be closed from midnight to 4 a.m. for barrier adjustment. Traffic will be detoured to Route 50 West, exit to Route 608 (West Ox Road) South, stay to the right to Route 50 East.
FAIRFAX – Temporary ramp closures are scheduled to occur during the overnight hours next week at several I-66 interchanges as part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project.

Monday, September 13, through Friday, September 17
Ramp from I-66 East to Route 29 (Lee Highway) North and South Centreville
The ramp will be closed from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. each night. Traffic will be detoured farther east to Route 28 North, stay to the left to Braddock Road/Walney Road, turn left at the traffic signal onto Braddock Road West, follow signs to turn left to the ramp to I-66 West, then take I-66 West to Route 29 Centreville. (Note: This closure will not occur on night(s) when the detour route is not available due to other closures.)
Monday night, September 13, through Friday night, September 17
Ramp from Nutley Street North and South to I-66 East
The ramp will be closed from midnight to 4 a.m. (until 5 a.m. Saturday) each night for a traffic shift. Traffic will be directed to I-66 West, exit to Route 123 (Chain Bridge Road), stay to left and turn left at the traffic signal onto Route 123 South, then stay to the left and turn left at the next traffic signal to I-66 East.
Monday night, September 13, and Tuesday night, September 14
Ramp from I-66 East to Route 50 West
The ramp will be closed from midnight to 4 a.m. each night for ramp work. Traffic will be directed to exit prior to the closure to Route 50 East, stay to the left and use the left-most left turn lane to make a U-turn at the traffic signal at Waples Mill Road onto Route 50 West.
Monday night, September 13, through Wednesday night, September 15
Ramp from Route 50 West to I-66 East
The ramp will be closed from 2 a.m. to 5 a.m. each night for crews to implement a traffic shift. Traffic will be directed to continue farther west, exit to Route 608 (West Ox Road) South, stay to the right to Route 50 East, then follow signs to I-66 East.
Monday, September 13, through Saturday, September 18
Ramp from Route 50 East to I-66 East
The ramp will be closed from 10 p.m. to 3 a.m. Monday through Wednesday nights; from midnight to 4 a.m. Thursday night; and from midnight to 5 a.m. Friday and Saturday nights for crews to implement a traffic shift and overhead bridge demolition. Traffic will be directed farther east, stay to the left and use the left-most left turn lane to make a U-turn at the traffic signal at Waples Mill Road, then stay to the right and follow signs to I-66 East.
Monday night, September 13,
Ramp from I-66 West to Braddock Road/Walney Road
The ramp will be closed from midnight to 4 a.m. for retaining wall work. Traffic will be detoured to Route 28 South, travel south to the exit to Route 29 (Lee Highway) North, stay to the right and follow signs to Route 28 North, then stay to the left to exit to Braddock Road/Walney Road.
Wednesday night, September 15, and Thursday night, September 16
Ramp from I-66 West to Route 50 East
The ramp will be closed from midnight to 4 a.m. each night for ramp work. Traffic will be directed to continue west to Route 286 (Fairfax County Parkway) South, stay to the right to I-66 East, then follow signs to Route 50 East.
Friday, September 17, and Saturday, September 18
Ramp from Route 50 West to I-66 West
The ramp will be closed from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. each night for paving work. Traffic will be directed to continue farther west, exit to Route 608 (West Ox Road) South, stay to the right to Route 50 East, then follow signs to I-66 West.
Thursday, September 16, through Saturday, September 18
Ramp from Route 28 South to I-66 West
The ramp will be closed from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. Thursday, and from midnight to 5 a.m. Friday and Saturday nights for crews to implement a traffic shift. Traffic will be directed to continue farther south, exit to Route 29 (Lee Highway) South, travel about one mile, then follow signs to I-66 West.
Thursday night, September 16, through Saturday night, September 18
Ramp from Braddock Road/Walney Road to I-66 West
The ramp will be closed from midnight to 4 a.m. each night for utility work. Traffic will be directed to take the exit to Route 28 South, to Route 29 (Lee Highway) South, travel about one mile, then follow signs to I-66 West.
All work is weather dependent and will be rescheduled if inclement conditions occur.
