Public Invited to June 16 Route 1 Multimodal Study Meeting
Third virtual meeting to provide update on feasibility study and opportunity for public feedback
ARLINGTON, Va. – The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) invites residents and users of U.S. Route 1, also known as Richmond Highway, to a virtual public information meeting on Wednesday, June 16, on the feasibility study of potential future multimodal improvements between 12th Street South and 23rd Street South in Crystal City.
In coordination with Arlington County, VDOT is studying opportunities to improve the safety, accessibility and overall user experience on and across Route 1 in this area.
Incorporating input received from the initial public survey and meetings over the last year, at this third public meeting the study team will share the latest progress on the study, including updated concepts and analysis of future build conditions on Route 1. The public is invited to provide input on proposed design elements along the corridor and to ask questions of the study team.
Following input received during the public comment period, a draft study report is expected to be shared with the public for feedback this summer, with the final report to follow in late summer.

ABOUT THE STUDY
The purpose of the Route 1 Multimodal Improvements Feasibility Study is to identify enhanced multimodal connectivity and accommodations along Route 1, between 12th Street South and 23rd Street South, to meet the changing transportation needs of the Crystal City and Pentagon City communities.
As this area's commercial and residential densities continue to increase, transportation plans will need to address the wide-ranging needs of pedestrians, bicyclists, transit riders, motorists and other users while maximizing safety, convenience and sustainability of the system for decades to come.
The study is expected to be complete in summer 2021. At this time, construction funding has not been allocated, so the study will not set design or construction dates.
