Rolling Road Lane Closures in Springfield April 20
Traffic shift for Rolling Road and Old Keene Mill Road intersection improvements

SPRINGFIELD – Northbound and southbound Rolling Road (Route 638) between Kenwood Avenue and Old Keene Mill Road (Route 644) will have lane closures, weather permitting, Tuesday, April 20 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. to implement a traffic shift as part of the Rolling Road and Old Keene Mill Road intersection improvements, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation.

At least one lane in each direction of Rolling Road will remain open as crews implement a temporary traffic shift. Beginning around 3 p.m. Tuesday, southbound Rolling Road traffic between Old Keene Mill Road and Kenwood Avenue will be shifted to the left to allow for reconstruction of the southbound side of Rolling Road.

The work is part of the Rolling Road and Old Keene Mill Road intersection improvements that include:

  • Adding a second left-turn lane from northbound Rolling Road to westbound Old Keene Mill Road
  • Adding a dedicated right-turn lane from northbound Rolling Road to eastbound Old Keene Mill Road
  • Upgrading the traffic signal
  • Improving the intersection alignment

The intersection improvements are scheduled to be complete later this year.
