Rolling Road Southbound Lane Closures in Springfield May 28
Traffic shift for Rolling Road and Old Keene Mill Road intersection improvements

SPRINGFIELD – Southbound Rolling Road (Route 638) between Old Keene Mill Road (Route 644) and Kenwood Avenue will have lane closures, weather permitting, Friday, May 28 from 9 a.m. to noon to implement a traffic shift as part of the Rolling Road and Old Keene Mill Road intersection improvements, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation.

At least one lane of southbound Rolling Road will remain open as crews implement the permanent traffic shift. Beginning around noon Friday, southbound Rolling Road traffic between Old Keene Mill Road and Kenwood Avenue will be shifted to the right onto new pavement. The shift will allow for reconstruction of the median area.

The work is part of the Rolling Road and Old Keene Mill Road intersection improvements that include:

  • Adding a second left-turn lane from northbound Rolling Road to westbound Old Keene Mill Road
  • Adding a dedicated right-turn lane from northbound Rolling Road to eastbound Old Keene Mill Road
  • Upgrading the traffic signal
  • Improving the intersection alignment

The intersection improvements are scheduled to be complete later this year.
