Route 7 Westbound Nightly Lane Closures in Leesburg Sept. 22-23
Update: Work completed, Sept. 24 nighttime lane closures cancelled

Update 9/24/21: This work was completed Thursday night, Sept. 23, the lane closures scheduled for Friday night, Sept. 24 have been cancelled.

LEESBURG – Westbound Route 7 (East Market Street) between River Creek Parkway/Crosstrail Boulevard and Battlefield Parkway will have nightly double lane closures, weather permitting, Wednesday, Sept. 22 and Thursday, Sept. 23 from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. each night to remove and replace overhead signs, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation.

Each night, the two left lanes of westbound Route 7 will be closed between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. Also, intermittent traffic stoppages lasting up to 20 minutes each will occur between midnight and 4 a.m.

Similar nighttime lane closures will be scheduled in the coming weeks on westbound Route 7 to remove and replace the overhead signs between Battlefield Parkway and Cardinal Park Drive.

In June, the new interchange at Route 7 and Battlefield Parkway, and a new auxiliary lane on eastbound Route 7 from the Battlefield Parkway on-ramp to the River Creek Parkway/Crosstrail Boulevard off-ramp opened to traffic; also, the traffic signal at Route 7 and Cardinal Park Drive was removed and the Route 7/Cardinal Park Drive intersection converted to a permanent right-in/right-out configuration.

Construction continues through November to finish the remaining elements of the project, including:

  • Adding an auxiliary lane on eastbound Route 7 from Cardinal Park Drive to the Battlefield Parkway off-ramp
  • Constructing a shared-use path along northbound Battlefield Parkway and a sidewalk along southbound Battlefield Parkway, as well as pedestrian signals and lighting.

The posted speed limit along Route 7 will continue to be reduced to 45 miles per hour between the Leesburg Bypass and River Creek Parkway until construction is complete.

Drivers, cyclists and pedestrians are reminded to use caution when traveling in active work zones. Be alert to new traffic patterns and limit distractions.
