View presentation online and take survey through Jan. 14; more at virginiadot.org/Route234SudleyStars

MANASSAS – The Virginia Department of Transportation is asking travelers in Manassas to give feedback on a STARS (Strategically Targeted Affordable Roadway Solutions) study assessing potential operational, safety and accessibility improvements for nearly three miles of Route 234 Business (Sudley Road) between Battleview Parkway and Godwin Drive.

Several draft alternatives that have been developed since the first round of virtual public involvement in June include:

  • Bicycle and pedestrian enhancements between the I-66 interchange and Balls Ford Road, as well as pedestrian enhancements at the Sudley Manor Drive intersection
  • Additional local bus stops between Balls Ford Road and Godwin Drive
  • Turn lane improvements at the intersections of the I-66 interchange ramps, Balls Ford Road, Coverstone Drive/Williamson Boulevard, Sudley Manor Drive, Lomond Drive, Crestwood Drive, Portsmouth Road and Rixlew Lane
  • Innovative intersection improvements, including a quadrant roadway intersection at Balls Ford Road and a displaced left turn intersection at Sudley Manor Drive

Route 234 Business (Sudley Road) averages about 50,000 vehicles a day within the study limits based on 2019 data.

VDOT invites residents and travelers to learn more and share feedback. View the presentation online to learn more about the draft alternatives along Route 234 Business (Sudley Road), then give input and comments by taking the online survey through Jan. 14. The public feedback will be used to develop recommendations that will be detailed in the final report that is scheduled to be released in spring 2022.

The presentation and survey (also available in Spanish) and more study details are available at virginiadot.org/Route234SudleyStars. Comments can also be sent to meetingcomments@vdot.virginia.gov or to Mr. Bobby Mangalath, P.E., Virginia Department of Transportation, 4975 Alliance Drive, Fairfax, VA 22030.

This study is being completed through VDOT’s Strategically Targeted Affordable Roadway Solutions (STARS) program that aims to identify cost-effective measures to improve safety and reduce congestion. This study does not set construction dates for any improvements, but develops proposed improvements that localities can pursue for funding.
