FAIRFAX – The new, permanent loop ramp from Route 123 (Chain Bridge Road) South to I-66 East is planned to open during the daytime hours on or about Tuesday, March 29. The current left turn to the temporary connector ramp from Route 123 South to I-66 East will close as part of this work. The Route 123 Interchange is being rebuilt as part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project.
Drivers should expect the following new traffic pattern, weather permitting:

Ramp from Route 123 South to I-66 East
- During the daytime hours the new loop ramp will open on the right side of the roadway near the previous loop ramp’s location. This new ramp is part of the final design of the reconstructed I-66/Route 123 Interchange.
- Drivers on Route 123 South will no longer be able to make a left turn at the temporary traffic signal to reach I-66 East.
To implement the change, drivers should expect the following:
Route 123 South at I-66
- The right lane will be closed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for crews to implement the new ramp opening.
All work is weather dependent and will be rescheduled if inclement conditions occur.
When complete, the reconstructed Route 123/I-66 Interchange will provide direct access to and from the new Express Lanes for both eastbound and westbound travelers. A new shared-use path through the interchange will provide connection between the new 66 Parallel Trail and planned trails in the City of Fairfax.
