Route 7 Nighttime Lane Closures between Loudoun County Parkway and Route 28 in Ashburn Nov. 7-10 & 14-17
Overnight traffic stoppages to lift beams for George Washington Boulevard overpass
ASHBURN – Route 7 will have nightly lane closures between Loudoun County Parkway (Route 607) and Route 28 (Sully Road) Monday night, Nov. 7 through Thursday night, Nov. 10 and Monday night, Nov. 14 through Thursday night, Nov. 17 to allow crews to set steel beams for the future George Washington Boulevard overpass, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation.
The lane closures will occur according to the following schedule, weather permitting:
- Eastbound - Monday night, Nov. 7 through Thursday night, Nov. 10: The two right lanes between Loudoun County Parkway and Route 28 will be closed from 10 p.m. each night to 5 a.m. the following morning, with full stoppages of up to 15 minutes each occurring nightly between midnight and 5 a.m.
- Westbound - Monday night, Nov. 14 through Thursday night, Nov. 17: The three left lanes between Route 28 and Loudoun County Parkway will be closed from 10 p.m. each night to 5 a.m. the following morning, with full stoppages of up to 15 minutes each occurring nightly between midnight and 5 a.m.
Drivers should expect delays and are advised to use alternate routes. All ramps at the Route 7 interchanges at Loudoun County Parkway and Route 28 will remain open at all times.
The beam lifts are part of the Route 7/George Washington Boulevard Overpass project, which is extending George Washington Boulevard from Research Place south to Russell Branch Parkway via a new bridge over Route 7. The quarter-mile George Washington Boulevard extension will be a four-lane road/bridge with a shared-use path along one side and a sidewalk along the other. This project will improve operations on Route 7, reduce congestion at the Route 7 interchanges with Loudoun County Parkway and Ashburn Village Boulevard, and improve accessibility for drivers, bicyclists and pedestrians by connecting parallel roads to Route 7 (Riverside Parkway and George Washington Boulevard) with parallel roads to Route 28 (Russell Branch Parkway and Pacific Boulevard). The project will also improve access to the George Washington University Virginia Science and Technology Campus and the Strayer University Loudoun Campus. The project is scheduled for completion in mid-2024.
