FAIRFAX – The Virginia Department of Transportation will hold a virtual public information meeting Thursday, Jan. 13 on plans to construct multimodal and access management improvements along three miles of Braddock Road (Route 620) between Humphries Drive in Burke and Ravensworth Road in Annandale, including the eastbound and westbound Braddock Road ramps to southbound I-495 (Capital Beltway Outer Loop) and a half-mile of Ravensworth Road between Braddock Road and Heritage Drive. This project aims to improve safety, mobility and accessibility for all users.

Prior to the meeting, residents and travelers are encouraged to learn more by viewing a presentation online (also available in Spanish and Vietnamese) detailing the project’s preliminary design at virginiadot.org/BraddockMultimodal. During the meeting, alternatives will be presented for three intersections along the Braddock Road corridor: Rolling Road, Wakefield Chapel Road/Danbury Forest Drive and Burke Lake Road.

The project’s other planned improvements include new and upgraded shared-use paths along both sides of Braddock Road, and a pedestrian overpass just west of Burke Lake Road.

Within the project limits, Braddock Road averages about 71,000 vehicles a day and Ravensworth Road averages 14,000 based on 2019 data.

The project’s right of way and construction will be done in two phases: Southampton Drive to Ravensworth Road (Phase 1) and Humphries Drive to Southampton Drive (Phase 2). Phase 1 is fully funded and Phase 2 is partially funded. The project is financed with federal, state (including Smart Scale) and local funding.

In lieu of an in-person meeting, VDOT invites residents and travelers to learn more, participate in the virtual meeting and give feedback in the following ways through Thursday, Feb. 24:  

• Attend the Thursday, Jan. 13 online Register at virginiadot.org/BraddockMultimodal or to participate without registering in listen-only mode, call 877-309-2071 (use access code 225-779-067). The project team will make a short presentation beginning at 7 p.m. and answer questions for about an hour after the presentation. In case an alternate date is needed, the meeting will be held Monday, Jan. 24.
• Provide comments on the alternative concepts via the online survey (also available in Spanish and Vietnamese) or by email to meetingcomments@vdot.virginia.gov.
• Mail comments to Mr. W. Calvin Britt, P.E., Virginia Department of Transportation, 4975 Alliance Drive, Fairfax, VA 22030.

Meeting materials and the presentation will be available online at virginiadot.org/BraddockMultimodal, including the recorded presentation after the meeting.
