Overnight Ramp Closures at Multiple I-66 Interchanges August 6-11 for the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project
UPDATE (8/9/2023): The ramp from I-66 East to I-495 North will also be closed Thursday night, August 10, from midnight to 4 a.m. for a concrete pour.
FAIRFAX – Temporary ramp closures are scheduled to occur during the overnight hours at the following I-66 interchanges as part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project.
Sunday night, August 6, and Monday night, August 7
Ramp from I-66 East to I-495 North
The ramp will be closed both nights from midnight to 4 a.m. for drainage work. Traffic will be directed to I-495 South, take the exit to Route 50 (Arlington Boulevard) East, stay to the right to Fairview Park, take the left fork to Fairview Park North, bear left at the traffic signal, then stay to the right following signs to I-495 North.
Monday night, August 7, and Tuesday night, August 8
Ramp from I-66 East to I-495 South
The ramp will be closed both nights from midnight to 4 a.m. for overhead bridge painting and inspections. Traffic will be detoured to I-495 North, travel to Route 7 (Leesburg Pike) West, then stay to the right to I-495 South. Note: This closure will not be implemented if it conflicts with a detour route.
Wednesday, August 9, and Friday, August 11
Ramp from I-495 North to I-66 East
The ramp will be closed both nights from 10 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. for overhead bridge work and painting. Traffic will be directed to I-66 West (prior to the closure), exit to Nutley Street, stay to the left and follow the roundabout onto Nutley Street South, then stay to the right and follow signs to I-66 East.
Thursday, August 10
Ramps from I-66 East to Route 50 East and West
The ramps will be closed from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. for punch list work. Traffic will be detoured farther east to Route 123 (Chain Bridge Road), stay to the left and turn left at the traffic signal onto Route 123 North, stay to the right to I-66 West, then follow signs to Route 50 West or Route 50 East.
Friday, August 11
Ramp from I-495 North to I-66 West
The ramp will be closed from 10 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. for overhead bridge painting and inspections. Traffic will be directed to continue north to Route 7 West, stay to the right to I-495 South, then follow signs to I-66 West.
Friday, August 11
Ramp from I-66 West to Braddock Road/Walney Road
The ramp will be closed from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. for utility installation. Traffic will be directed to Route 28 North, travel to the Westfields Boulevard Interchange. Drivers heading to Braddock Road will take the exit to Westfields Boulevard West, then continue to Braddock Road. Drivers traveling to Walney Road will take the exit to Westfields Boulevard East, then turn right onto Walney Road.
Monday night, August 7, through Friday night, August 11
Ramp from I-66 West to Route 28 North
Ramp from I-66 West to Braddock Road/Walney Road
The ramps will be closed on multiple nights from midnight to 4 a.m. for inspections and overhead bridge work. Traffic will be detoured to Route 28 South, to Route 29 North, stay to the right and follow signs to Route 28 North. Drivers heading to Braddock Road/Walney Road will stay left and follow signs to the exit on the left. Note: This closure will not be implemented if it conflicts with a detour route.
Wednesday, August 9, through Friday, August 11
Ramp from Route 28 South to I-66 West
Ramp from Braddock Road/Walney Road to I-66 West
The ramps will be closed on multiple nights from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. for inspections and overhead bridge work. Traffic from Braddock Road and Walney Road will be directed to Route 28 South. Route 28 South traffic will continue farther south, exit to Route 29 South, travel about one mile, then follow signs to I-66 West.
