Route 7/Lewinsville Road Intersection Additional Improvements in McLean Open Sept. 26
Update: Opening rescheduled to Sept. 28
Update: Due to inclement weather, this will now occur during the overnight hours on Wednesday, Sept. 27 and into the early morning hours on Thursday, Sept. 28. The permanent traffic pattern will be in place by 5 a.m. Thursday.
MCLEAN - During the overnight hours on Monday, Sept. 25, and into the early morning hours on Tuesday, Sept. 26, crews will finalize the construction of the Route 7/Lewinsville Road intersection and transition to the permanent intersection configuration.
Temporary traffic patterns may be in place during the overnight hours between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. while crews complete the transition. Please use caution and be alert to directional signage that will be in place to guide drivers through the intersection.
By 5 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 26, the permanent traffic pattern will be in place, and drivers on Brook Road and Lewinsville Road who are headed to westbound Route 7 will proceed to the traffic signal on the east side of McLean Bible Church, turn right, and access westbound Route 7 via a new acceleration lane.
See map below for details and click here to view a video simulation of the new Lewinsville Road intersection.,
Please use caution and be alert to vehicles and equipment entering and exiting the work area. All work is weather-dependent and subject to change.
For information on intersection movements at the completion of construction along Route 7, please see the interactive map on the project website.
Please note crews are only working within the VDOT right of way and where rights have been acquired from property owners (read more).
As a reminder, the Route 7 speed limit has been reduced to 45 miles per hour in active work zones between Reston Avenue and Jarrett Valley Drive, and Virginia law prohibits the use of handheld cell phones while driving through an active work zone.
Please use caution and be alert to work zone signs, potential flagger or police direction, and watch for traffic shifts. Slow-moving vehicles and equipment may be entering or exiting the road.
