BRIDGE, PAVEMENT REPAIR WORK BEGINS ON NEW MARKET ROAD (ROUTE 5) IN HENRICO
Work is expected to be complete in early to mid-July
HENRICO — On Friday, June 14, Crews began repair work on the bridge and pavement on New Market Rd. (Rt. 5) over Bailey Creek in Henrico County following damages sustained by heavy rainfall in June.
Crews made the decision to close the westbound side of Route 5 when they noticed that a retaining wing wall on the bridge had been slightly rotated due to persistent rain and stream flow. Following additional assessments, it was determined that the road should be closed in both directions for safety.
The existing structure was built in 1942 and carries approximately 2,200 vehicles per day. More on VDOT’s bridge and structures division can be found at http://www.virginiadot.org/info/Bridge.asp.
Anyone with questions about the work can call VDOT’s customer service center at 800-367-7623 (FOR-ROAD) or visit https://my.vdot.virginia.gov/. For real-time traffic updates, visit http://www.511virginia.org/.
