NEW MARKET ROAD (ROUTE 5) NOW OPEN FOLLOWING EMERGENCY BRIDGE, PAVEMENT REPAIRS IN HENRICO
The detour has been lifted

-HENRICO — On Friday, June 28, crews completed emergency bridge and pavement repair work on New Market Rd. (Rt. 5) over Bailey Creek in Henrico County following damages sustained by heavy rainfall in June. The repairs will extend the lifetime of the structure for several years.

New Market Rd. (Rt. 5)

Crews began repairs on Friday, June 14 after making the decision to close Route 5 due to the slight rotation of a retaining wing wall on the bridge following persistent rain and stream flow.

The detour was lifted on Friday afternoon and both directions of Route 5 over Bailey Creek are accessible to through traffic.

The structure was built in 1942 and carries approximately 2,200 vehicles per day. More on VDOT’s bridge and structures division can be found at http://www.virginiadot.org/info/Bridge.asp.
