RICHMOND DISTRICT CREWS MONITORING ROADS FOR SLICK SPOTS
Watch for icy conditions during morning commutes
SOUTH CHESTERFIELD, Va. – Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) Richmond District crews are standing by and preparing to address potential slick spots that could develop on state-maintained highways overnight Thursday and early Friday.
Any slick conditions will be addressed with a combination of salt (which melts ice) and/or sand (which provides traction).
Drivers should use extra caution during Friday morning commutes, as temperatures remain cold and wet pavement may be icy in spots.
Reminders for drivers
- Use caution in locations where pavement freezes first, including bridges, overpasses and shaded areas.
- Allow more time to reach your destination and leave extra room between vehicles while driving.
- If you begin to skid, do not brake. Take your foot off the gas and steer the vehicle in the direction you want to go.
