TRAFFIC ALERT: ROUTE 460 IN GILES COUNTY REOPENS TO TWO-WAY TRAFFIC BUT REPAIRS STILL ONGOING
Two-way traffic using eastbound side of Route 460 while repairs continue on westbound lanes

SALEM  – As of June 4, one lane of traffic in each direction is open on Route 460 in Giles County, Virginia, about five miles east of the West Virginia border.

All lanes of Route 460 had been completely closed as crews with the Virginia Department of Transportation have been repairing the roadway following a slide that occurred before Memorial Day.

Two-way traffic now is shifted onto the eastbound side of Route 460 while work continues to restore the westbound lanes.  Drivers can expect some delays on the open Route 460 lanes during daytime hours as flaggers may control traffic at times as part of the ongoing repairs to the westbound lanes.

The remaining repairs on the westbound lanes are anticipated to take several more weeks and are estimated to cost $1 million.

The slide occurred west of the Town of Narrows just days before Memorial Day during prolonged heavy rainfall,

Updates on this closure and the latest Virginia traffic information are available at www.511virginia.org, through the free mobile app or by phone.
