TRAFFIC ALERT: EXTENDED LANE AND EXIT CLOSURES BEGIN NEXT WEEK ON INTERSTATE 81 IN NORTHERN BOTETOURT COUNTY

SALEM, VA – As part of the I-81 Safety Improvement Project at the S-Curves in the northern  area of Botetourt County, paving operations with extended southbound lane closures are scheduled to be performed next week. 

Beginning Monday night, May 10, through Thursday night, May 13, alternating lane closures will be in place on southbound I-81 from mile marker 168.2 and 169.5, have been scheduled from 8 p.m. each night to 6 a.m. the following morning or until the pavement is cured. During this paving operation, Exit 168 will also be closed on Wednesday night, May 12, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. the following morning.

Alternating lane closures will remain in place the following week, Sunday night, May 16, through Monday night, May 17, on southbound I-81 from mile marker 168.2 and 169.5, from 8 p.m. each night to 6 a.m. the following morning or until the pavement is cured.

In addition, extended lane closures have been scheduled on Tuesday night, May 18, and Wednesday night, May 19, on southbound I-81 from mile marker 168.2 and 169.5, from 7 p.m. each night to 9 a.m. the following morning or until the pavement is cured and pavement markings are in place. Exit 168 will also be closed on Tuesday night, May 18.

Drivers may experience delays and should plan their travel accordingly.
