TRAFFIC ALERT: ROUTE 460 IN GILES COUNTY, VIRGINIA, COMPLETELY CLOSED AGAIN
One open eastbound lane closed again as rain causes more movement in mudslide

SALEM, Va. – A mudslide that occurred on Feb. 21 continues to impact traffic on Route 460 in Giles County.  The slide occurred just east of the West Virginia border, about 0.5 mile west of Island Street in Rich Creek.

Currently, both eastbound lane and both westbound lanes of Route 460 are closed.  One eastbound lane of Route 460 was opened last night; however, additional movement in the mudslide due to today’s rains has prompted the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT)  to close that lane again.

There is no estimated time frame completing the clean up and repairs or reopening Route 460.

Eastbound and westbound Route 460 traffic is currently detouring around the closure.

Small passenger vehicles can use Route 649 (Lurich Road).  All other vehicles, including commercial and recreational vehicles, will need to use Route 61 and Interstate 77 as detour routes.
