Honoring Virginia's Frontline Transportation Workers
RICHMOND, Va. — Each year, a day is set aside to recognize the importance of transportation to all Virginians. This year, the focus is on honoring the Commonwealth’s frontline transportation workers and the critical work they do to keep Virginia moving.
While stay-at-home and safer-at-home orders have been in place around the state, thousands of essential employees have worked around the clock to keep people, freight, motorists and businesses connected and safe. Committed to their roles, Virginia’s transportation workforce remains resilient despite the unprecedented challenges our Commonwealth – and our nation – have faced over the past few months.
“I thank the dedicated men and women who are sustaining Virginia’s multimodal transportation network, connecting people to healthcare, essential supplies, and their jobs, and ensuring that critical goods and equipment get to where they need to be,” said Secretary of Transportation Shannon Valentine.

During its 2018 session, the Virginia General Assembly passed legislation designating the Thursday before Memorial Day each year as “Celebrate Transportation Day” in Virginia.
