FREEZING RAIN MAY CREATE HAZARDOUS DRIVING CONDITIONS FRIDAY MORNING
STAUNTON – (4 a.m.) Freezing rain is expected throughout the Shenandoah Valley and Alleghany Highlands Friday morning, creating the potential for black ice on roadways. Motorists should be extremely cautious during the morning commute, especially when crossing bridges and overpasses.
As of 4 a.m. Friday, crew members are on duty throughout the Virginia Department of Transportation Staunton District to treat roads with salt and abrasives. These operations will continue until temperatures rise well above freezing and the threat of ice has subsided.
For winter weather road conditions go to http://www.511Virginia.org, look at the orange bar on the top of the page and click on “Text Views” and then click on “Road Condition Table”. Look at the pull down box that lists all jurisdictions. In this box individual counties can be chosen to view.
