WORKING TO MAKE AREA ROADWAYS SAFE TONIGHT - VDOT CREWS PATROL AND TREAT SHENANDOAH VALLEY ROADS

STAUNTON – (9:30 p.m.) Below freezing temperature are present throughout the Shenandoah Valley tonight. The weather system that brought several inches of snow to the area has departed. Most roads have been plowed but a thin layer of moisture remains in many spots causing possible freezing on road surfaces.  Motorists should be alert for slick roads, frozen slush, and icy patches.  Drivers should allow plenty of stopping distance and give plows and spreaders room to do their work.

The Virginia Department of Transportation has crews out monitoring roads and treating them as needed throughout the night.

Travelers are encouraged to check 511Virginia.org for crash listings, road conditions and live camera feeds.

Here are the road conditions as of 9:30 p.m. in the Virginia Department of Transportation Staunton District:

Interstate 64 – Minor conditions in Augusta County. Clear conditions in Alleghany County.

Interstate 66 – Clear conditions in Warren County

Interstate 81 – Minor conditions in Augusta and Rockingham counties. Clear conditions in Rockbridge, Shenandoah and Frederick counties.

Primary roads – Moderate conditions in Warren County. Minor conditions in Rockbridge, Highland, Augusta, Rockingham, Shenandoah and Frederick, Clarke and Page counties. Clear conditions in Bath and Alleghany counties.

Secondary roads – Moderate conditions in Highland, Rockbridge, Augusta, Rockingham, Shenandoah, Warren, Clarke and Page counties. Minor conditions in Bath, Alleghany and Frederick counties.
