Work with Us – You Play a Role in Work Zone Safety
There is nothing more crucial to VDOT than maintaining the safety of those who work and travel on Virginia roads.
As a crusader of work zone safety, VDOT continues its 25-year tradition of spreading safety awareness to highway workers and the traveling public.
The 2023 “Work With Us” national campaign emphasizes that everyone shares the responsibility for safe work zones. VDOT construction and maintenance crews, contractors and motorists all have a role in ensuring that everyone makes it safely home.
We urge drivers to slow down and be alert-- not just in the height of construction season-- but all year long.
Join us in observing National Work Zone Awareness Week:
Monday, April 17: NWZAW Kick-off day. Start a conversation about safety.
Wednesday, April 19: Go Orange Day and statewide NWZAW observance. Wear orange and share your support of work zone safety by posting pictures on your social media accounts with #GoOrangeDayVA. Wednesday evening, VDOT and its partners gather at the VDOT Workers Memorial on Afton Mountain to honor those who lost their lives on work zone incidents.
Friday, April 21: A statewide moment of silence at 10 a.m. to remember workers killed in service to the Commonwealth.
