Under Construction: Route 208 (Courthouse Road) and Hood Drive Intersection Improvement
This project will build additional turn lanes on northbound Hood Drive to reduce congestion.
A raised median will be built on Hood Drive to separate northbound and southbound traffic between Courthouse Road and McGowan Drive. Additional sidewalk, crosswalks, and pedestrian crossing equipment will be installed at the intersection.
One-Way Traffic on Hood Drive
Starting July 18, 2023, traffic on Hood Drive will be in a one-way pattern through June 2024 to accommodate construction of this project. Read the news release to learn more about this temporary pattern and detour.
View a map of the detour route.
During construction, southbound Hood Drive traffic (traveling from Courthouse Road to Route 1) will be closed to through traffic. Through traffic will be detoured to use Courthouse Road and Route 1 (Jefferson Davis Highway). The detour length is around 1.8 miles and will add an estimated 5 minutes of driving time.
Northbound Hood Drive will remain open to all traffic during construction, and local traffic with residences or business on Hood Drive, McGowan Drive and Wilcox Street can continue to access the southbound lane.
Project Documents
This project is being built at the same time as a separate $6 million project to add left and right turn lanes on Hood Drive into a new Veterans Health Administration outpatient clinic. Local funds are paying for the turn lane project.
Benefits
- Reduces driver delay at intersection by building additional travel lanes
