This project is making traffic signal upgrades and other improvements at the intersection of Backlick Road (Route 617) and Leesville Boulevard.
The traffic signal upgrades include new mast arm poles, foundations, wiring, electrical equipment, high-visibility signal backplates and signs. Also, drivers on Backlick Road will have flashing yellow arrows for left turns to Leesville Boulevard and the office park.
Pedestrians will have four new crosswalks with Accessible Pedestrian Signals at the intersection. Other pedestrian improvements include Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) curb ramp upgrades and installations.
At the intersection, Backlick Road averages about 30,000 vehicles a day and Leesville Boulevard averages 4,000.
Estimated Costs
Preliminary Engineering: $82,000
Right of Way Acquisition and Utility Relocation: $47,000
Construction: $571,000
Total: $700,000
This project is financed with federal Highway Safety Improvement Program funding.
