In Design: King Arthur Road over Accotink Creek Bridge Rehabilitation in Fairfax County

This project will rehabilitate the King Arthur Road (Route 3679) bridge over Accotink Creek. The bridge, which averages 1,800 vehicles a day, was built in 1964, its beams repainted in 1975 and its deck resurfaced in 1994.
The project includes:
- Replacing the entire bridge deck slab and all supporting steel beams and bearings
- Widening the bridge sidewalk
- Replacing pier caps and tops of columns
- Repairing exposed concrete of pier columns and abutments
Estimated Project Costs
Preliminary Engineering: $900,000
Right of Way Acquisition and Utility Relocation: $710,000
Construction: $7.8 million
Total: $9.4 million
The project's preliminary engineering phase is financed with state funding; the right of way and construction phases are planned to be financed with federal and state funding.
Benefits
This project will improve driver, bicyclist and pedestrian safety and extend the overall life of the bridge.
