Please note: This project was completed in October 2022.

This project upgraded the signalized intersection of Columbia Pike (Route 244) and Lacy Boulevard. 

The traffic signal upgrades included:

  • New mast arm poles, foundations, wiring, electrical equipment, high-visibility signal backplates and signs
  • Flashing yellow arrows for left turns from Columbia Pike to Lacy Boulevard and Maple Court

Pedestrian improvements included four new high visibility crosswalks with Accessible Pedestrian Signals at the intersection, and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) curb ramp upgrades.

Preliminary Engineering - $81,000
Right of Way Acquisition and Utility Relocation - $52,000
Construction - $442,000
Total - $575,000

The project was financed with federal Highway Safety Improvement Program funding.

At the intersection, Columbia Pike averages 30,000 vehicles a day, Lacy Boulevard averages 4,500 and Maple Court averages 1,700.

Benefits 

This project aims to enhance pedestrian and driver safety and traffic operations.
