Workforce Development Program

The Virginia Department of Transportation is concerned about the majority of its workforce being eligible to retire within the next 10 years and is implementing strategies to meet upcoming employment demands that will help create a diverse, skilled workforce in the years ahead. 

The program is designed to expose high school students to careers in transportation, expand diversity in employment, increase apprenticeship participation, and increase training resources and opportunities for highway construction jobs throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia.
