I-395 Southbound and 395 Express Lanes Nighttime Lane Closures at South Abingdon Street in Arlington Oct. 21 & 22
Traffic shifts as part of South Abingdon Street over I-395 bridge project

ARLINGTON – Lane closures will occur, weather permitting, along the southbound I-395 general purpose lanes and the 395 Express Lanes Saturday night, Oct. 21 and Sunday night, Oct. 22 at the South Abingdon Street overpass (located between the King Street and Shirlington Circle interchanges) to implement traffic shifts, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation.

The lane closures will occur between 10 p.m. Saturday and 5 a.m. Sunday, and again between 10 p.m. Sunday and 5 a.m. Monday, Oct. 23.

At the South Abingdon Street overpass, the southbound I-395 general purpose lanes will be temporarily shifted to the right; the 395 Express Lanes will be shifted to the right when running northbound and to the left when running southbound.

The traffic shifts are part of the project to rehabilitate the South Abingdon Street bridge over I-395. The project, which will improve safety for drivers, bicyclists and pedestrians and extend the overall life of the bridge, is scheduled for completion in late 2024.

Visit the VDOT project page for more details.

Drivers are reminded to use caution when traveling in active work zones. Be alert to new traffic patterns and limit distractions.
