New South Oak Street Bridge Open in Falls Church
Replaces 70-year-old bridge over Tripps Run

FALLS CHURCH – The new South Oak Street bridge over Tripps Run opened to traffic Oct. 26, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation.

The previous weight-restricted bridge (10 tons) was built in 1953. In February 2023, the old bridge was closed to allow construction of its replacement.

The new bridge, which does not have posted weight restrictions, features a concrete foundation, walls and deck.

Minor work with minimal traffic impacts will occur in the coming weeks until final completion.

The $2.2 million South Oak Street over Tripps Run Bridge Replacement project is financed with federal and state funding, including State of Good Repair funds used for bridges.
