Recently Completed: Piggott Bottom Road over Branch of South Fork Catoctin Creek Bridge Replacement in Loudoun County

Please note: This project was completed in May 2023.

ICYMI: The new Piggott Bottom Rd bridge over an unnamed tributary of the South Fork of Catoctin Creek in Hamilton (no not that one) opened yesterday! It's slightly higher than the previous 90-year-old bridge, to better withstand flooding.

This project replaced the Piggott Bottom Road (Route 711) bridge over an unnamed tributary of the South Fork of Catoctin Creek. The previous bridge was built in 1932 and rehabilitated in 1992. The new bridge is slightly longer and higher to better withstand flooding and includes precast concrete beams to reduce long-term maintenance. 

Prior to closing in March 2022, the old bridge averaged 140 vehicles a day.

Estimated Costs
Preliminary Engineering - $683,000
Construction - $1.5 million
Total - $2.2 million

This project was financed with federal and state funding, including State of Good Repair funds used for bridges.
