Alternatives, Inc.
Alternatives, Inc. is a Safe Routes to School partner in Hampton, Virginia. Brain Injury Services of Southwest Virginia
Brain Injury Services of Southwest Virginia (BISSWVA) helps and supports brain injury survivors and their families in Southwest Virginia to make a positive, measurable difference in survivors’ abilities to fulfill their service potential and optimize their reintegration into the community. In Virginia, BISSWVA works in communities from Alleghany to Lee County and has supported Safe Routes to School through bicycle helmet safety programs and helmet giveaways in Roanoke. Greater Richmond Fit4Kids
Greater Richmond Fit4Kids supports Safe Routes to School initiatives at schools in the Greater Richmond Region, including the City of Richmond, Chesterfield County, and Henrico County, with a focus on Title 1 schools. Fit4Kids' mission is to reduce prevalence of obesity through physical activity and nutrition. Phoenix Bikes
Phoenix Bikes is a nonprofit organization based in Arlington, Virginia with a mission of educating youth, promoting bicycling, and building community. Through year round bicycle education programming for 12-17 year olds at their community bike shop and in local schools, Phoenix Bikes helps youth learn the basics of bike repair and gives them a chance to both earn a bike for themselves and serve their community. Safe Kids Virginia
Safe Kids Virginia is the state affiliate of Safe Kids Worldwide, whose mission is to prevent injuries to children 14 and under. Safe Kids is active in approximately 18 counties and cities in Virginia. In partnership with FedEx, Safe Kids also provides grants to support Walk to School Day events through the Walk this Way program. Sentara RMH Community Health
Sentara RMH Community Health (Community Health) is dedicated to building healthier communities through various initiatives including health education and awareness programs, and family health campaigns. Community Health serves Harrisonburg City, Rockingham, Page, Shenandoah, and Augusta Counties and directly supports Safe Routes to School through its Safe Routes to School division coordinator and Healthy Community Action Team coordinator in Harrisonburg City and Rockingham County. Sports Backers
Sports Backers advocates for bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure improvements in the Greater Richmond Region, including the City of Richmond, Chesterfield County, Hanover County and Henrico County. Sports Backers’ goal is to transform greater Richmond into the most physically active community in the nation by leading the area in embracing and celebrating an active lifestyle. TrailsforYouth.Org
TrailsforYouth.Org teaches kids to overcome obstacles by providing them with opportunities for connecting with nature and physical activity. TrailforYouth.Org targets at-risk youth in Northern Virginia, with a focus on Fairfax County, and has conducted numerous bicycle rodeos. Virginia Foundation for a Healthy Youth
The Virginia Foundation for a Healthy Youth (VFHY) empowers Virginia’s youth to make healthy life choices by promoting active, nutritious, and tobacco-free living. This statewide organization supports the Safe Routes to School program through its Healthy Communities Action Team initiative. Communities across the state can create their own Healthy Communities Action Team and apply to receive funding for a healthy community coordinator, whose eligible activities include promoting safe walking and biking to school. Washington Area Bicyclist Association (WABA)
WABA supports Safe Routes to School initiatives in the metropolitan Washington, D.C. region which includes Alexandria, Arlington and Fairfax County, Virginia.
